Report: Angels About to Acquire Scott Kazmir from Rays for Alex Torres and Matt Sweeney
Multiple media outlets report a trade about to happen between the Angels and the Tampa Bay Rays. The Angels would acquire 25-year old LHP Scott Kazmir from the Rays for Arkansas LHP Alex Torres and Rancho Cucamonga 3B Matt Sweeney.
The Los Angeles Times reported the trade, then MLB.com reported the trade fell through, and now the St. Petersburg Times says the trade may still happen but the hangup may be the Rays wanting a third minor leaguer to be named later.
Updates when available.
Latest I’ve heard on tv and radio down here (not to mention the sources you mentioned above) is that the trade is dead. For now, anyway. I hope we can hang on to Kaz b/c to let him go at this point in the year, for minor leaguers!, would be a mistake.

I agree, if the Angels get Kazmir for Torres and Sweeney I’ll be shocked. Kazmir is a two-time All-Star and just entering his prime. Yes, he’s had a down year, but his best season was when he had Mike Butcher as his pitching coach in Tampa so I think Butch will get him straightened out.
If I were the Rays, I’d be asking for Trevor Reckling, not Torres.
The Rays are only 3 1/2 games out in the wild card race. This seems like a unilateral surrender unless they get someone who can help them right away, like Brandon Wood, but they don’t need Wood.
